My seasonal part time job wound up working me full time for nearly three weeks! Great for the money, but bad for writing and stuff. Sorry 'bout that. I gatta say, the after Christmas sales have been outrageous. I got a 5 foot Christmas tree for $17 so next year we will have a proper tree. This year Dana made a tree out of construction paper, beer caps, and little pompoms. It was darling, there are pictures, but it was not meant to weather the years unfortunately.
Monday afternoon we adopted a cat. His name is Jacques Cousteau. Don't blame me, Dana named him after our third favorite song, "Foux du Fa Fa". We had friends over for the last night of Hannukkah and as we sat on and politely requested noms, which we gladly provided to him. You should have heard the happy noise he made! It sounded like "yum, yum, yum, yum, yum!" Poor guy was so hungry. It took us awhile to figure out his sex, but after our friends left, I noticed his furry little balls, teehee!
I wanted to take him to the vet, and I was perfectly content to leave him outside until such time as I could take him to the vet. Dana used to be a pet bather, though, so she decided that we should take him right away. She brought him inside Monday afternoon, clipped his nails and gave him a bath. Later on we brought home a collar for him and flea treatment for all the animals. Tuesday I took him to the vet, who confirmed that he had no microchip and said, "I think he has adopted you!" And so he has.
It's hard to really name my Flight of the Conchords favorites, though. I mean. There's Business Time which has become an inside joke among all my beloved. And the first I ever heard was Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros ... totally hilarious. I'd say All the Ladies in the World is among the top five, as well... "lady many lady!" Speaking of beautiful girls, another fave is The Most Beautiful Girl in the Room... is that a compliment?? My personal all time favorite has got to be Inner City Pressure!
Mom came to visit for a couple of weeks, but it was a whirlwind trip for her because she was packing up my grandmother's house with her the whole time because she found a buyer. Owning two houses was too much for her (totally understandable, don't you think?) So she'll be getting a motorhome for my uncle's backyard for times when she is in this area, and she's going to be adding on to her mountain home. Grandma's a tough gal though, so they got everything finished! Dana got to meet my beloved dachshund, our childhood pet. A very sweet thing. And mom acknowledged to me that she knows I'm with Dana, and that I live with her and everything. She's not happy about it, but we've decided that if we keep everything on a very superficial level when it comes to Dana, that mom doesn't mind talking about her. She made the hominy casserole that I brought to Christmas dinner and everyone loved it - mom made a joke about D being able to cook better than I can and I can see that she's not going to spend her life crying over me. That's a good thing.
Grandma's giving us her kitchen table, a couch, and a chair - how awesome is that? We're getting ever so close to the end of Dana's lease and I'm a little nervous, but excited too. The homes in the area have decreased quite a bit in the last two months - I've found several 3BR homes renting for $800 monthly which is fantastic, so I'm hoping to snag one asap and get the hell outta this apartment complex, and out of apartment life... hopefully forever! Of course there are lots of costs involved and I'm not going to be working much... there's so much up in the air, it's crazy!
Sorry for the long rambling update. And the lack of sex. We've been so busy, tired, menstruating and having yeast infections from antibiotics because of swollen tonsils that we haven't had any wild and crazy sex. Except for that threesome... I've still forgotten to tell you about that! I'll save it for another night.
One final note, after grocery shopping, I made cream cheese cracker dip with pepper n onion relish, corn bread pudding, and an oatmeal pear crisp. Love it!
Goodnight darlings!

thrifting
I forgot that on Saturday Dana and I went thrifting and had some pretty damn good luck. Store number one didn't have much, but there were a couple of books, and a copy of The Secret Garden on VHS. I have to say, I'm starting to get a little nostalgic for tapes, because you can get used movies for so cheap at thrift stores, and they have been in pretty fair condition so far. We really bonded over the movie last night. I really love Mary Lennox's transformation from an angry, fearful girl into a warm and smiling young woman. I laugh at how she ruffles Mrs. Medlock's feathers, and storms into Colin's room calling him selfish! She herself enters the story behaving very selfishly, but finally she learns that she doesn't have to be afraid of being abandoned anymore, and learns to freely love herself and others. I was inspired by the incredibly good acting of the children in this movie and the directing is fantastic, having been made by one of Francis Ford Coppola's companies.
We also located a copy of Mr. Edward Greenblatt's "Suddenly Single: A Survival Kit for the Single Man" which includes 30 simple recipes (enough for one month!) and 50 kids activities (for your kids when they are in your custody, or perhaps for the children of people you date?). That will probably be my next book review.
The treat of the next store was a cache of old lesbian music tapes! Here's the list

Sheryl Crow's title album (not lesbian, just 90's!)

Our final stop lead to a deposit of the contents of my trunk (which have been awaiting the goodwill donation center for many moons) and the purchase of a bookshelf, a tea pot and tea kettle, and some fancy plates (which I looked up online and they are in fact very good fakes). *Squee!*

no, i didn't win the lottery
Miss Avarice has shopped.
No, I didn't win the lottery,
I just have really good credit.
This shopping trip will probably
last me until the summer time!
From the jewelry store:
Diamond Ring: $975? Hardly. $292.50
Aquamarine Ring: $189.? Try $56.70
Black Pearl Earrings: $100? Half. $50.00
White Pearl Earrings: $59? A mere $18
I apparently shopped on the right day because my favorite place for clothing was also on sale. Pretty much everything in the $30-$50 range was $6! When I checked out, Rather than my receipt showing $440, it was $171. For two whole bags stuffed full! Mostly sweaters and a jacket for colder weather, stocking up for times when I will be heading northward. I also grabbed some yoga pants, a denim skirt, dress pants, and shelf tanks. From another store I grabbed a couple of thin, long-sleeved shirts for the dreaded Camping Trip which I have been conned, coerced, and otherwise required against my will to attend. Finally, I finished off with two new bags, a small red and a mediumish blue. My friends make fun of me for how incredibly large most of my purses, and I general stick to one style, so I purposefully picked bags that are definitely not my style - it's time to branch out.
Speaking of heading northward, my mind has been in "please god, anywhere but here" mode and I have been curiously investigating places like Brooklyn, Jersey, Portland, and Washington State as a future home once I have finished my Women's Studies degree - although I'm sure the studying will have just begun by that point! Of course this is not for another year or so, but moving that far away from home deserves some thorough preparation. Why move across the continent you ask? Eh. I require constant change to exist. My spirit must always be moving. And I've said many times before, I have never felt so content in any other situation than I feel when I am in transit from one place to another. Whether it's driving to work, driving to see a friend who lives out of town or flying to an entirely different city. My most favorite feeling is walking down a street that I have never been on before. That's why it didn't take me long to get on board when Kay suggested that they might be skipping town in the next year or two also...

omg shoes
Please. For the love of God. No more shoes! I was helpless today! I tried on so many pairs of shoes - you should have seen me! I went in looking for clothes and came out with a mini-blender, two-for-the-price-of-one pillows, and three pairs of shoes! Black closed-toed pumps, red closed-toed pumps and a pair of flats. I originally went into the shoe department looking for flats, but picked up the two heels and then felt guilty for not getting what I went in for originally. So I had to get the flats too. My other heels are not very sturdy - the two pairs of satin ones. Those are for outings where I will not do much walking. These new ones are very sturdy, and with magic clear-gel-stick-on-insoles, they'll be good to go. I really need to start wearing these shoes if I'm going to keep buying them. It's like when I used to buy a lot of makeup and never wear it... I need a life. It's getting dire, folks.
Hi, my name is Avarice. I have a problem. I sometimes over-do it on shoes.

new and improved
I had quality time tonight with my favorite butch couple (whose pet femme I seem to have become!) - I listened in on gay women's choir rehearsal and then we went out for supper, dessert and drinks. Well, technically I'm the only one who drank. I had a very sweet sangria that required a pint of beer to wash down all the sugary ick. We retired to the apartment so I could meet their new (cat) babies - I'll call them Mademoiselle (girl, French accent, bitchy) and Papito (a lover boy with a Spanish accent).
But that is not why I am writing now. I'm writing because tonight we discovered my new favorite sex toy, and one which I will need to purchase straight away.
Feather Cat Teaser

Kay's has a little jingle bell on the feather end, too. Somehow, and I don't remember how, I ended up getting whapped in the ass with the feather/bell end and it was a magnificent surprise that warranted squirming, and a happy groan. The bell gives a very sharp sting that goes away quickly, kinda like wasabi - hot for a second, but then it's just savory. The feathers were great for tickling my sides and my back. I'm ticklish in all the wrong spots, though. My lower back isn't ticklish but whenever the feathers passed over my sides, I gasped a quick "ooh!" The sting of the switch is my favorite, though.
Later, I convinced the two of them to cuff me behind my back - finally! I've owned the cuffs for three weeks, now! It was only for like 2.5 minutes, but it certainly put a smile on my face. They started out with some lighthearted flogging (I'm still disappointed - it doesn't hurt!), and then went on to really smack the hell out of my ass. First with one hand, then with two at once! Ouch! They sent me home alone, all hot and bothered. Per the usual.
One of these days, man. One of these days.

big city girl
Today was fabulous.
Never mind the fact that date #2 was a no-show.
Never mind the fact that it was chilly and wet.
Never mind the fact that I made a U-turn on the
subway. I was headed for Brooklyn... woopsies!
First stop: Century 21
I'm probably never going to go there again. So not "worth fighting for" as they say. ICK! The only bag I really really wanted was a $150 Furla purse. I settled on an Andy Warhol messenger bag for Rae and a navy Kenneth Cole bag for myself.
Second Stop: H & M
My life is absolutely incomplete without H&M and there isn't a store in Florida. Nearest one is in Virginia. Not even in Atlanta for crying out loud! I bought a new party dress for myself, and for my Gay - some cute undies and a black tie with small, subtle, silver spiders. Except I'm thinking about just giving him the undies and keeping the tie for myself.
Third Stop: Toys in Babeland
I was feeling kinda floaty here. Like, "wait, what's that for again?" and I was wide-eyed looking at the Wall-Of-Harnesses. I bought a moose hide flogger and leather wrist cuffs. One kink adviser has suggested rope to tie the cuffs down. I'm thinking red. I've been pretty much in love with red lately. Who's going to try them out? Any takers? I'm open to suggestions! *Ehem* Commands, rather.

Fourth Stop: Antique Garage
This is a very unique Mediterranean restaurant. The decor is kinda... old fashioned European-American. I'm guess like. 18th and 19th century. Real silverware, mix-and-match vintage china. I had Börek to start, and Mantı, and a glass of Angora wine. Yeah it sounds like a sweater, but it's a very delicate white wine, perfect for an early dinner. Baklava and Turkish Coffee for dessert.

So now I'm back at my hotel prancing about in my new dress (pictures forthcoming!) and trying to pack the mess that is on my bed into my suitcase. My airport shuttle is picking me up at 3:15a. First layover is in Memphis.
Remind me to write about my constitution. Am I made of fluff or substance? Am I as fierce fearless as I always thought myself to be?

So... I went shopping today...

Well, what have we here?
Two of a delicious kind.
Guessing game ;)
Pretty pink bows!
I was wholly inspired by the Vaudevillians show last night. I've danced before, I look like hotness. What's stopping me, eh?
